Biography

Cyril was born in 1899, at or about Hawthorn in the Colony of Victoria. He was the son of Henry Nott and his wife Annie (nee Raftery). ^[1]

Cyril Edwin Henry Nott was an Australian Rules footballer from the 1920s. He played with the Richmond Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and also the Hawthorn Football Club in firstly the Victorian Football Association (VFA) and then later in the the Victorian Football League (VFL). ^[2]

In 1929, Cyril Edwin Nott married Eileen Ruby Goodwin.^[3] Wedding article: Nott—Goodwin THE marriage of Cyril G., eldest son of Mr and Mrs H. G. Nott, with Eileen Ruby, only daughter of Mr and Mrs G. Goodwin, of Maffra, was celebrated by the Rev. Stanley Hollow at Christ Church, Hawthorn, on Saturday October 5. The bride's ivory georgette frock fell in long graceful lines to her ankles. Her beautiful Brussels lace veil, that also formed a train, was caught at each ear with a cluster of orange blossoms, and her sheaf bouquet was of arum lilies. Misses Violet and Nina Nott, the bridegroom's sisters, were bridesmaids, in eau-de-nil georgette, the flared skirts dipping to their ankles. These were topped by pink lace straw hats, which toned with the pink carnations and sweet peas in their bouquets. Mr Joseph R. Nott was best man, and Mr Ronald Goodwin groomsman.^[4]

Cyril Nott served in the Australian Army in World War II, and for many years worked as a sports journalist for the Sporting Globe newspaper in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

He passed away in 1980, aged 81.^[5] and as laid to rest at the Springvale Botanical Cemetery, Springvale, Victoria.
