Richard Tappin Nott, son of Josiah and Salle Nott, was baptized on May 5, 1799 in Essex, Connecticut.[1]
Richard T Nott married Martha C. Means on 5 January 1826, in South Carolina.[2]
In 1830 Richard T Nott is shown as head of a household with a female, age 20-29, in Fairfield County, South Carolina.[3]
By 1844 the Nott's were well established in Greene County, Alabama. In that year Richard was appointed as a Justice of the Peace.[4] In 1845 he was nominated for a position as a Comissioner of Roads and Revenue in Greene County.[5]
In 1850, Richard and Martha were living in Greene County, Alabama. Richard was a planter with real estate valued at $5,000.[6] By 1860 Nott's real estate holdings were valued at $17,000 and he had a personal estate valued at $53,000.[7]
John T Nott signed his will on June 1, 1869. It was proved on February 18, 1870. His wife, Martha C Nott was the sole heir.[8]
Estate papers of his wife, Martha, indicated that the couple had no children.
