Hallo Mr. Nolte,

I am working on some Degenhardt ancestors and I noticed Andreas Geor Degenhardt in the list.

I have Joannes Adam Degenhardt married Louise Reine (möglich ein Adoptivkind, wird als Schwester der Josepha Gundermann genannt) in Duderstadt. He was born in Dinglestadt and she in Duderstadt. They had 10 children in Dingelstädt. I have not found a death record for him or her. I was wondering if they returned to Duderstadt after the birth of their children. And if her biological parents are listed in Duderstadt. Do you have a copy of the Duderstadt OFB?

Additonally I have Heinrich Degenhardt born, a guess, around 1700 with no birth location. Now I am curious about him. If he was also fron Duderstadt. Though, his son was born in Rustenfeld.

If you are interested I'd like to work on this family with you.

Thank you

Dear Mr/Ms Roberts,

Many thanks for your interest in my tree. As far as I know, there is no OFB for Duderstadt. The church records are available online, though: https://data.matricula-online.eu/de/deutschland/hildesheim/duderstadt-st-cyriakus/. Maybe you find there what you are looking for. Dingelstädt and Duderstadt are part of a small catholic area in otherwise protestant northern Germany. They used to be part of the same diocese, which was also a sovereign country, the Archdiocese of Mainz, until 1802. Since then they have belonged to different German states and also catholic dioceses. The church records for the diocese of Hildesheim, to which Duderstadt belongs today, are online under the link above. Those for the diocese of Erfurt, to which Dingelstädt belongs today, are not online, unfortunately. I looked for weddings in 1803 in Duderstadt, but I did not find the one of Joannes Adam Degenhardt and Louise Reine. However, according to his profile, he was born in 1794, which means he was 9 years old at the time of his wedding. Maybe there was a mistake with the date? Good luck with your research. Kind regards, Stephan

Stephen,

Thank you very much for this information. It will be a big help. I am not (recently) German or Catholic so this branch of my tree is a fun but sometimes confusing challenge. There were so many changes in this area.

I did not find the death records but found a few options for Louise's birth record. This family looks like a project for another day. Hopefully their great grandchildren can figure this out. Maybe with DNA.

Yes, the marriage date was incorrect. Not only did I have Johannes married at age 9, his wife was married on the day she was born. That would be true cradle robbing! Thank you for finding that error.

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz, Stephan!

Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, thus coordinating with others is essential.

This is my suggestion for your ancestors: German Roots Project, leader is Jacqueline Clark. This is the upper level project with many sub-projects, that you should check for the best one.

If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to review other possibilities.

Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.

Hi,

As you have been a member of WikiTree for about a week now I thought I would check in to see how you are getting on with the site.

Has the New Member How-To  been helpful or left you with any questions?

I am here to help with any problems or queries you may have. Just click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page or send me a private message.  Sometimes links don't work in emails.  If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Hi Stephan,

Thanks for volunteering! You are now a full member of the WikiTree community, and can start adding your family. Let me know if you have any questions.

Since WikiTree is different from other genealogy sites, we have a guided tour for new members at New Member How-To. Feel free to work through the How-Tos at your own pace.

Once you add profiles to WikiTree they become searchable and in my experience persons interested in these profiles will contact you and may provide further information to expand your family tree.

Great to have you on board, enjoy, and good luck growing your branches.
