As per Noll Family booklet: After their marriage, Samuel and Maria lived in Longswamp Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania where their first three children (Augustus, Harrison, Mary Ann) were born. About 1844. they moved to Carbon County, Pennsylvania where they lived for about five years at the "Pit Bachman's place", a short distance from Balliet's Furnace. Fianna, Sarah Amanda and William were born in that second home. Later the family moved to the "Gless' place", west across the hills from the Ashfield church (Dinkey Memorial Church) and lived there for about seven years. Aaron and Emma were born there. About 1856 they moved again, this time to the Lizard Creek which was nearer to Balliet's Furnace and remained there about six years. Alvin and Elmira were born in that home. Finally, in 1862, they bought 62 acres of land along the Blue Mountain, about one and a half miles from Bowmanstown in an area called Kittatiny. It's very close to the Lehigh River Gap on the north side of the mountain and west side of the river. They built a large house for their growing family and began clearing the land; it eventually became known as the old Noll homestead.
Samuel was an iron moulder. At different times, he worked at Balliet's Furnace in East Penn Township and at Maria Furnace which is about a mile from Weissport, both in Carbon County; also at Lehigh Furnace in Lehigh County; all in Pennsylvania. After the family was living at the Noll homestead site, they raised produce on their farm and made weekly trips to Parryville in Carbon County where they found a ready market for their farm and garden products.
As per obituary in The Lehighton Press newspaper: "Samuel Noll, the oldest citizen of East Penn, died last Thursday at the ripe old age of 89 years and 23 days. The deceased came to Carbon County in 1843 from Berks County, where he was born in 1806. He located in East Penn where he remained until the time of his death, the last few years being passed upon his farm. He raised a family of ten children, all of whom are living, the oldest being 57 years and the youngest 36 years. The obituary states that there were ten children. However, Samuel's son Horatio Noll is not listed. There were a total of eleven children. Horatio is not mentioned at all in Noll Family booklet so it is likely that Horatio died in infancy or as a very young child.
