Henry was born in 1839. He was the son of Jonathan Newlin and Mary Lindley. He passed away in 1864 in a Confederate prison camp in Richmond, Virginia. Henry and his brother Joel both joined the Union Army at the same time for a three year enlistment. Private Henry Newlin served in Company D, 66th Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry. . Both Henry and his brother Joel were captured by Confederates and taken to a prison camp. Joel was quickly paroled, but Henry died of starvation. Henry is buried in Richmond National Cemetery.
