Hi!

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Shirley Dalton, WikiTree Mentor

A suggestion if I may, you might want to make separate tags for each of your locations you are interested in.

Right now you have Germany mixed in with Russia and four states in the US. You have up to 20 tags to use. So you can make one for each of the four states and one for Russia.

That way you can find who else is interested in that particular place and maybe even your surname!!

Hi Jason

I see that you just did the Pre-1700 Self-Certification. That's great! Also noticed you made 21 contributions to Wikitree, thank you! Here at WikiTree we like to have our members involved with others; collaboration is key!

Please stop by or projects page and see if there is a project you would like to join and help with pre-1700 profiles at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Projects

Also why don't you stop by the One Name Studies project, to see if there's already a name study for (surname) going on? The current leaders for that are Doug Lockwood and Alison Andrus. They would be happy to get you started.

Again, thanks for volunteering to work on Pre-1700 profiles!

Dorothy, Volunteer Coordinator.

Hi Jason,

You are now a confirmed member of WikiTree. Thank you for volunteering, and I wish you luck in connecting to your German, French and Russian kin on our tree!

Have fun and ask for help if you need it. WikiTree members are always eager to offer guidance to a fellow genealogist.

If you need additional help, our Mentors Project is a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to assist you with WikiTree-specific problems.

Question of the week: Where do you look to bring out the details of your ancestor's life?

See you in the branches –

Margaret

Hello Jason,

Welcome to WikiTree. By now you should have received an email with helpful links to get you started on adding your family to ours.

WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person and that means we share ancestors and work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree?

When you confirm your email address, you’ll be given an opportunity to volunteer to help document our collective family history. Use the Tags and comments to tell us about your genealogical interests.

When you volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership.

Happy Hunting,

Jess
