Alfred "Al" Gottfried Nett, 84, of 364 Third Street, Fond du Lac, passed away peacefully on 13 November 2006 at the University Hospital and Clinics in Madison, Dane, Wisconsin. He was born on 21 January 1922 at Marytown, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, a son of Johann Nett, 1896-1970 and Susanna "Susie" (Korb) Nett, 1897-1979. He married Miss Estella Susan Schneider on 27 September 1945 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in St. Peter, Minnesota.

The couple were lifelong residents of Fond du Lac County and had been residents of Fond du Lac since 1946. They were members of the Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph's Church, Fond du Lac. Mr, Nett was a member of the Trier-Puddy American Legion Post, No. 75.

Al was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army 14th Armored Division, European theater. The division arrived in France in October 1944 and were involved in combat for 133 days during which time they suffered 4,296 casualties and captured 64,205 enemy soldiers. This action occurred in the areas of Rhineland, Hesse, and Bavaria, Germany.

Mr. Nett worked for C. J. Kleinhans; Chief Implement; and Blakely Auto Parts. In his spare time he enjoyed: woodworking; gardening; bird watching; and baby sitting their grandchildren.

He was survived by: his children Thomas (Kathy) Nett of Spokane, Washington; twins, Andrew Sylvester (Bonnie) Nett Eldorado and Catherine Nett of North Fond du Lac, b. 1952; Susan Ann (Joe) Reface, b. 1955 of Merrick, New York; daughter-in-law, Susan (Richard) Dittman of Shoreview, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Cordelia Bender of Newton, Wisconsin; Theresa Hilt of Lomira, Wisconsin; brothers, Elmer Joseph (Esther) Nett, b. 1923 of Marytown; Wilfred (Ann) Nett of Fond du Lac; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alfred was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Estella, 1923-12 November 2006; and son, James John Nett, 1946-1998.

Friends called from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Thursday, 16 November 2006 at the Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 North Park Avenue, Fond du Lac.

Funeral services were held at 7:00 p.m., 16 November 2006 at the Funeral Home where a Liturgy of the Word Service was led by Deacon Ricardo Munoz. At their request the casket was closed.

Entombment was at the Chapel of The Risen Christ Mausoleum, Calvary Cemetery, Fond du Lac, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; plot: Bay 101, Level 6, Crypt 3. The Trier-Puddy American Legion Post, No. 75 conducted military graveside services. The findagrave memorial ID is 173803583.
