Biography

Susannah J Neel was born about 1823 in Union County, Kentucky, United States, daughter of David M. Neel (about 1773–1850) and Elizabeth Mayberry (about 1793–about 1865).

William S Crawford and Susannah J Neel married on 18 Aug 1841 in Union County, KY.

Susan (27) and Minor J Griggs (22) were married on 4 Oct 1851 in Union County. Minor was born on 15 Nov 1828 in Union County. He was the son of John Minor Griggs and Nancy (Culver) Griggs.

Susan died in 1867 in Hitesville, Union County, aged about 44.

Research Notes

• In her father's will, he says that his daughter is in the Lexington Lunatic Asylum; however, I didn't find an admission record for her. Adding the category for her since he specially mentions it.

• Susan the daughter of David M. Neel was first married to a William Crawford. This was in the will of David M. Neel, in which he left Susan's portion of his estate in the hands of her mother Elizabeth until such time as she was no longer in the "mental asylum", and not married to William Crawford. David did not want Crawford to be able to have any portion of Susan's inheritance. David M. Neel wrote his will 8 Mar 1847, and it was probated 19 May 1851. Don't know exactly when Susan was in the asylum, but she was there at the time her father wrote his will. Don't know the exact date she was released from the mental hospital, but she is living with her brother Benjamin Franklin Neel in the 1850 census, and we don't know if William Crawford died or if Susan divorced him, but she married Minor J.
