James Nankervis (sometimes spelled Nekervis) was born in 1832 in St Just in Penwith, Cornwall, England to William Nankervis and Jane (Lanyon) Nankervis.
James Nekervis, son of William & Jane, was christened at Saint Just in Penwith on 18 Mar 1832.[1]
In 1841 James Nekervis (age 9) lived at Trewellard Cliff in St Just with his father William (49-49), mother Jane (35-39), and eight siblings: Henry (15-19), Jane (15-19), William (15-19), Thomas (14), John (12), Peggy (7), Elizabeth (4), and Nicholas (1).[2]
In 1851 James Nankervis (age 19, Miner) lived in St Just with his father William (56), mother Jane (49), and ten siblings: William (26), Thomas (23), John (21), Peggy (17), Elizabeth (15), Richard (13), Nicholas (11), Mary Ann (8), Martin (7), and Charles (5).[3]
James Nankervis (age 22, bachelor, Miner, son of William Nankervis, Miner) married Catherine Rowe (age 22, spinster, daughter of William Rowe, Miner) on 4 Mar 1854 at the parish church of St Just In Penwith.[4] The marriage was registered in Penzance, Cornwall in the first quarter of the year.[5]
In 1861 James Nankervis (age 30, Tin & Copper Miner) lived at Lower Trewellard, St Just with his wife Catherine (30) and four children: Elizabeth (7, Scholar), William (5, Scholar), Mary A (3), and James (0).[6]
In 1871 James Nankervis (age 39, Miner) lived in Trewellard, St Just with his wife Catherine (41) and eight children: Elizabeth J (17, Tin Dresser), William (15, Miner), Mary A (13), James (10, Scholar), Catharine (7, Scholar), Henry (6, Scholar), Charles (4, Scholar), and John R (2).[7]
In 1881 James Nankervis (age 49, Copper Miner) lived at St Just In Penwith with his wife Catherine (51, Copper Miners Wife) and nine children: Mary A (22, Work at the Mines), James (20, Copper Miner), Catherine (16, Work at the Mines), Henry (15, Copper Miner), Charles (14, Copper Miner), John R (12, Scholar), Richard (10, Scholar), Matthew R (6, Scholar), and Thomas (3[8], Scholar), as well as "nephew" [actually grandson] James G Rowe (Nankervis) (2).[8]
James Nankervis passed away in March 1885, aged 53 years. His death was registered in Penzance in the first quarter of the year.[9] James Nankervis was buried in Pendeen, Cornwall on 1 Apr 1885.[10]
