Carroll Nicholas Nagle was born in March 1863 in Glenbeha, Roscrea, Co.Tipperary, Ireland. He is the son of Carroll Nagle (a farmer) and Elizabeth Gavan. He was baptised in Roscrea parish church on 10th March 1863. His sponsors were Michael Gavan and Anne Talbot.

In 1901, Carroll was living with his widowed mother and two sisters at the family farm in Glenbeha, Tipperary. ^[1][2] In 1911 he was living at the same farm with only his sister Mary (his mother now deceased). He was still single and employed as a farmer.^[3][4]

On 24th September 1902, Carroll was charged with "unlawfully using intimidation" against a certain William J. Venton. He spent time at Clonmel prison for the offence. ^[5]

In 1915, Carroll married Katherine O'Connell, daughter of a labourer from Ballybeg. They married at Toomevara church on 3rd November 1915. ^[6]

Carroll died on 21st June 1925 at his home in Glenbeha, Tipperary. He was 62 years old and he died from chronic heart disease and heart failure.^[7] His death was registered by his niece Maggie Nagle who became a Carmelite nun five years later.
