William Austin Thomas " W A T " Murrey was born in Rush, Cherokee, Texas, USA on 30 Aug 1859 to William Austin Murrey and Catherine Powdrill. William Austin married Stella Mills and had 2 children. William Austin married Ella Bateman on 18 Mar 1900 Van Zandt, Texas. William Austin married Mary Ella Bulgier and had 4 children. He passed away on 3 Jun 1929 in Myrtle Springs, Van Zandt, Texas, USA.

He was educated therefore in the country schools and in the Wills Point High School. He is now a Nurseryman and Orchardist and also the Editor of the Fruit Grower, a widely circulated paper. He began fruit growing in 1886. Began the paper January 1, 1896. November 18, 1885.

He has been in the county forty-two years and has given her the best energies of his life. He loves the county and says she has great capabilities in fruit, vegetables, salt, timber and the staple crops. He is member of the church, the Bankers' Union of the World, United Benevolent Association of Texas and the Farmer's Union. He owns 283 acres of land near Myrtle Springs, in farms, orchards and nurseries. He has 150 lots in the town of Myrtle Springs. He has 1000 fruit trees, planted to orchard, and more than 400,000 nursery trees and plants. He has all of the best commercial varieties and is pushing this line of business with great energy. He believes in letting the world know what Van Zandt County is, and proves his faith by his works, and is the advocate of every good cause without regard to his own personal interest.

This man was not in the 20th Reg, TX Cav (Bass Unit). It clearly states on his service record that the man William Austin Murray was 32 years old. This man's father is the one who served in that unit. I don't believe this man served in the 7th Mounted TX Volunteers either. He would have been 12 years old at the time.
