Hi Maddy,

I'm still being kept busy with my own family profiles. I recently completed OT1 and I now realize that many of my older profiles are not up to standard, and these need to be my top priority :)

Hi Richard, that’s fine, working on your own family helps as much as anything! I think we all found the same thing after graduating from the trail. Many thanks for all you are doing

It's time for our annual Scotland Project check-in!

This year we are hoping to learn what our membership would like to accomplish over the next 12 months.

In case you aren't aware, this year is WikiTree's ""Year of Connections"" and the Project's leadership would like to contribute to this in as many ways as possible.

We would appreciate it if you would share your thoughts and ideas with us on how we can accomplish this goal. We would also appreciate it if you would provide some feedback on our existing goals, including:

  • If you have not yet signed up to help on one of the project's teams, which team(s) would you be interested in joining?
  • How often should we provide a Project Newsletter?
  • Have you participated in the Tartan Trail? If not, is this something you'd be interested in doing?
  • Do you have a question(s) that we could add to a Frequently Asked Questions page?
  • Any suggestions or ideas you have on ways to improve the Scotland Project in general

We continue to communicate with our Project members via Google Group (official) and Discord (unofficial), as well as G2G. You may also reach out to any of the Project leaders via WikiTree's internal messaging system at any time.

Thank you for all you do to help the Scotland Project become a knowledge hub for Scottish genealogical research! We wish you all the best in 2022!

Sincerely, Amy Gilpin on behalf of the Scotland Project Leaders

Hello Richard,

I hope you are well.

I'm sorry that you are no longer participating in the England Project's Orphan Trail, which we ask all new project members to complete. Sometimes people find that their interests change or the Orphan Trail isn't what they thought it would be. Thank you for your work on the Orphan Trail!

You are most welcome to re-apply to join the England Project when you have the time to commit to completing the Orphan Trail.

I do hope you choose to rejoin us in the future. In the meantime, please feel free to use the Orphan Trail resource pages as a guide when creating or editing English profiles. You can find links to them here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:England_Orphaned_Profiles_Team

Ian, England Project Leader

Hi Ian,

I kind of stumbled into the Orphan Trail. I was working on one of my own tree profiles which was growing back into the 1600's and WikiTree popped up some kind of message which seemed to be telling me, if I recall correctly, that if I was going to create profiles for individuals born in that time frame I ought to be doing this, that, and the other thing first. One of those things seemed to be the Orphan Trail, so I embarked on that.

The first profile I did (Purvis-211) was a lot of fun, and turned out to be a surprisingly interesting individual. The second one (Gartside-143) was slightly less so, and for the third one (Darby-133) there seemed to be nothing I could find to add to this person's profile. I kind of drifted away at that point because I wasn't sensing a lot of support from my Trail Blazer. Also, my Trail Blazer was clearly unhappy that I was using Ancestry as my primary research tool, and it seemed to be an unreasonably hot-button issue for her. In addition, it was beginning to dawn on me that the Orphan Trail was in reality some sort of proving ground to set a person up to contribute to the England Project, or one of the County Teams, and it wasn't (and still isn't) obvious to me that this is what I want to do with my time on WikiTree.

So, in short, I am not averse to continuing with the Orphan Trail, but I am not your typical trail candidate, and am likely to push back and argue if I don't understand why I am being encouraged to do certain things, or to do them a certain way. Also, there are times when I am too busy with other things to find time to pursue Orphan Trail matters. So, if you have a Trail Blazer who is keen to test themselves with an ornery candidate who probably isn't even doing the Trail for any of the right reasons, I'm willing to carry on with it ... :)

Thank you Richard. Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

The goals of the England Project are rather broad -- i.e. to make every English profile the best it can be -- so almost everything our project members do to improve English profiles is a step closer to achieving our goal. There is a lot of latitude in what we do.

One of the Leadership Team of the Orphan Trail will be in touch with you shortly to see if we can work out a way for you to continue with the Trail.

Ian

PS -- I was just looking at your work on Gilbert Purvis' profile. Very nicely done! Thank you!

Hi Richard,

I would like to thank you for all your contributions towards the goals of the England Project during the past six months. We've achieved a huge amount during this period and we couldn't have done it without you and our other project members.

As the England Project Leaders, we are completing our six monthly check-in with all project members.

Are you happy to stay in your current project team(s)? Which team(s) are you most active in? Are there other teams you would like to join or become more active in?

Also, do you have any feedback on what the project is doing well and anything we could do better in the future?

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message. I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks!

Hello

It’s time for a Project check-in!

Scotland Project Leaders check in with you at least once a year to see how you are doing. With the changes happening around the world, we understand that life is hectic right now.

What are you planning to work on for the Scotland Project this year? Are you happy with the team(s) you part of, or would you like to make some changes?

This time round, we’re also looking for feedback on the use of Google Group and Discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way to ensure you receive Project communications? If you would like to join us on Google Group or Discord, let us know in your response.

Hello Richard,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.
