Biography
Isabella Muir was born in Scotland.
Isabel (also known as Isabella) was born on 9 November 1821 at Balmaghie, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland[1], and baptised on 18 January 1822 at Balmaghie[2][3]. She was the daughter of Alexander Muir and Jean McGowan.
In 1841 she was living at Parkhouse, Kirkcudbright, Kirkcudbrightshire in the household of William Marshall, farmer, with his family (wife Mary and five children) and four other workers (two agricultural labourers and two female servants)[4]. She was a servant aged 20 born in Kirkcudbrightshire. In 1851 she was living with her mother Jane Muir (68) and her sister Janet (a servant aged 25) at Dee Bridge, Kirkcudbrightshire[5]. She was a dress maker aged 29 born at Balmaghie. She was still at home with her mother (80) in 1861 at Bridge of Dee[6]. She was aged 38 and still a dress maker.
She married Robert Muir on 12 July 1867 at Balmaghie, Kirkcudbrightshire[8]. They had no children.
In 1871 she was living with her husband Robert (an agricultural labourer aged 38) at 14 School Rd, Balmaghie[9]. She was a dress maker aged 47. They had moved to Balmaghie House, Balmaghie in 1881 where he was a domestic servant and carter aged 48[10]. She was aged 55 and her occupation was not recorded. A domestic servant, Mary McMyn (a laundress aged 22), was living with them.
Isabella died in 1888, and her death was registered at Balmaghie[11].
Her age got progressively younger with each census and is wrong on her death record as she was 66.
