Biography

Birth and Parents: Charles William "Charlie" Mudge was born on 22 November 1920 in Piave, Greene County, Mississippi, United States.^[1] His parents were William Frank Mudge (1874 - 1950) and Dixie Bell (Lang) McNeal (1887 - 1981).^[2]

Marriage and Family: He was married to Nona Catherine Burke. Six children were named in his obituary.^[2]

Military Service: "He served his country in the Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean Conflict."^[2]

Occupation and Other Activities: "He retired from Bellsouth at age 55 and began a new career as an emergency medical technician. Mr. Mudge found his true calling when he became a Santa Claus. He was best known as "Santa Charlie" and worked at the Lakeshore Mall, Gainesville, GA for fifteen years, the Woodbridge Mall, Woodbridge, NJ for fifteen years, numerous regional print ads and television commercials. For the last eight years he worked locally with the Make a Wish Foundation and local photographers. He was a communicant of Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3684...He was well known for his skill at hand carving canes and walking sticks."^[2]

Death and Burial: Charles William "Charlie" Mudge passed away on 08 February 2008 in Aiken, Aiken County, South Carolina. He was 87 years old.^[1][2] His remains were interred in Saint Clare's Haven Columbarium, Blairsville, Union County, Georgia.^[3]
