Biography

William was born in 1895. He is the son of Edward Mudd and Agnes Wickham. [1]

Residence:

1900 – Kentucky, Spencer County, Taylorsville, District 82, 1 Jun 1900 Sheet 1A shows Edward L. Mudd (33), wife Agnes (37) and children Stephen R. (6), William E. (4) and Joseph L. (3) living in the home they rent on Main Street. Edward reports to be a blacksmith and reports he and his parents were born in Kentucky. Agnes reports she was born in Kentucky and her father was from Ireland and her mother from England. The boys were born in Kentucky. The couple reports they have been married for 7 years and have 3 children, all of whom are still living. Also living with them is his father, John R. Mudd (79) and a widow who is from Kentucky and shown as the landlord and his brother, Frank W. Mudd (30) who is also a blacksmith.

1910 – Kentucky, Spencer County, Taylorsville, District 129, 28 Apr 1910 Sheet 7B shows Edward L. Mudd (43), wife Agnus (46), children Willie E. (13), Joseph S. (12), and Thomas W. (4). Also living with them is his father, John R. Mudd (86). The couple reports they have been married for 18 years and the 3 of their 4 children are still alive. Edward reports to be a general farmer while the teenage boys report to be farm laborers on a horse farm.

1917 – Kentucky, Spencer County, Taylorsville On his WWI Registration Card, William E. Mudd (21) gives his date of birth as 26 Sep 1895 in Taylorsville, Kentucky. He reports to be single and employed by his father. He is reported to be tall and slender with black hair. His father registered him as he was too ill to do so himself. He was inscribed on 24 May 1918 at Camp Zachary Taylor along with 14 other men from Spencer County.

1920 – Kentucky, Spencer County, Taylorsville, District 148, 14 Jan 1920 Sheet 7B shows Edd L. Mudd (55) and wife Agnes C. (58) are living with their sons Willie E. (24), Joe L. (23) and Thomas W. (19) on the farm they own. All report they and their parents were born in Kentucky. Edd reports to be a general farmer.

1930 – Kentucky, Spencer County, Taylorsville, District 3, 13 Apr 1930 Sheet 2B shows Edward L. Mudd (63), wife Agnus C. (65) and sons William E. (34) and Joseph L. (31) are living on the farm they own on River Road valued at $7,500. The couple reports he was 26 and she was 30 when they married. All but Agnus report they and their parents were born in Kentucky. Agnus reports her father was born in North Ireland and her mothers in England. Edward is a dairy farmer, while William is a farmer and Joseph is a house painter. Also living with them is his nephew Thomas Wickham (19) a farm laborer.

1939 – Kentucky, Spencer County, Taylorsville, 1 Oct 1939 Death record for Edward Lee Mudd shows a date of birth of 15 Aug 1866 and a death date of 1 Oct 1939. He was born in Spencer County and died in Spencer County. His parents are listed as Raymond Mudd and Margaret Weather, both of Nelson County. The informant was Joe Mudd and he was to be buried in Valley Cemetery. He is reported to still have been married and a farmer.

1940 – Kentucky, Spencer County, Taylorsville, District 108-3, 9 Apr 1940 Sheet 4B shows Agnes Mudd (76) as the widowed, head of the household. The farm is owned and valued at $1,200. Agnes reports she has a 6th grade education. Living with her is her son Wickham (34), daughter-in-law, May (33), grandson Thomas Edward (11) and her other sons William Edward (44) and Joe (43). Agnes, William and Joe report they lived in the same house in 1935. Wickham and May lived elsewhere in rural Spencer County. Wickham and William are farmers while Joe is a painter.

1943– Kentucky, Spencer County, Taylorsville, 28 Dec 1943 The Kentucky death record for Agnes Cecilia Mudd shows her date of birth as 26 Dec 1860 in Spencer County, Kentucky. Her father is listed as Steve Wickham if Ireland and her mother as unknown. The informant is Joe Mudd of Taylorsville. Cause of death is listed as influenza and she was to be buried at Valley Cemetery.

1953 – Kentucky, Spencer County, 2 Dec 1953 The Kentucky death record for William Edward Mudd shows he was born 26 Sep 1895 in Kentucky. His parents are listed as Edward Lee Mudd and Agnes Mudd. He is reported to be single and had fought in WWI. The informant is Joe Mudd, his brother. Cause of death was suicide with a single shot to the center of the forehead with a rifle. He was to be buried in Valley Cemetery.
