Hi Rich,

We're contacting you for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. We really appreciate your involvement in the Project in the last year. Thank you so much for all your help to improve Australian profiles on WikiTree.

Please could you reply to this message, or send me a private message to let us know if you'd like to stay on in the Project, and if you'd like to make any changes to the teams that you belong to. The teams are listed on Australia Project Teams.

If you've moved on to other things for the moment, that's absolutely fine. We'd appreciate if you'd let us know so that we can remove you from the membership list.

Over the past year, Australia Project members have been more active on Discord. We're finding it a fun way to communicate as a project. If you're not on Discord yet, here's some information - Help:Discord. If you are already on the WikiTree Discord server, let us know, and we can send you an invite link to the dedicated Australia Project server (WikiAustralia) where all our chat channels are located. It's a great way to communicate with other members on your project team/s, or for any general questions.

We're always happy to receive any ideas or suggestions that you have to make our project even better.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

The Australia Project Leadership Team ~ Gillian, Margaret and Veronica

Hi Margaret, hope all is well with you. Yes send me an invitation to the Australia discord and leave me on the membership list. I am currently working on my own project adding all interred in the Queensland Nambour Cemeteries to Wikitree if I can find relevant sources. Up to the 'B's now, I think this could take a while :)

Cheers, Rich

Thanks Rich for responding to the check-in message, and for your ongoing contributions to WikiTree and the Australia Project, they are much appreciated! Wow, big project, Nambour cemetery, all the best with it! In a previous life I worked 20 years in Nambour, know it well.

I'll send you a Discord link by private message.

Regards, Margaret

Hi Rich,

It is once again time for our annual Ireland Project check-in. Please respond within the next three weeks to let us know:

  1. If you would like to continue as an Ireland Project member. If your answer is yes, please tell us if you are happy with your current team, or if you would prefer to join a different one. If you are currently participating in more than one team we would appreciate you ranking them in their order of importance to you, from highest priority to lowest. This information will be helpful as we consider possible future changes to our team structure.
  2. In the past, the project has had a very minimal membership requirement (one contribution per year) for badged members to meet. Do you believe this is adequate, or should this requirement be increased? What do you believe would be a reasonable commitment to expect from all project members?
  3. How active have you been in the Ireland Project over the past year? Please choose one of the following options: a) I normally spend 1-5 hours per month helping achieve my team’s goals. b) I normally spend 6-10 hours per month helping achieve my team’s goals. c) I spend over 10 hours per month helping achieve my team’s goals. d) I am not able to contribute every month but have spent approximately ________ hours during the past year improving Irish profiles.
  4. Please provide feedback on any things you’d like to see the project do more of in the future.

You can respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within the next three weeks we’ll assume your interests have changed or you no longer are able to participate in the Ireland Project at this time, and your badge will be removed. If your circumstances change later you will be welcome to reapply for membership.

Many thanks for all that so many of you have contributed to the project in the past year, and very special thanks to those who answered the project’s call and gave generously of their time to be part of Team Seanchaithe during the most recent connect-a-thon. We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Jen, I probably should pull out as an Ireland Project Member for now anyway. Haven't given it much attention lately and am working on a project of my own to add profiles of deceased members of a local graveyard that will keep me busy for a long time. My own research on my mother's Irish line has hit a brick wall and records are too difficult to find. I need a break I think to re-enthuse myself in this direction.

Thanks and wishing the Project well

Dear Germany Project member,

it's annual check-in time 2023. If you still wish to remain a member of the Germany Project, please reply to this post, by stating this intention. If we don’t hear from you in the next 30 days, your membership badge will be removed. In this case please don't be offended ... you're welcome to rejoin at any time. Please also note, that in order to receive help, with researching your German ancestors, membership is not mandatory. Just ask your questions in the G2G forum and tag them with Germany in order for knowledgeable people to see them.

If you wish to remain a member, we would like to learn more about your perception of the Germany Project in order to achieve a future development according to our members needs and wishes. For this, we created a survey, which we kindly ask you to fill-in.

In case you want to communicate, discuss and receive help about WikiTree in German, you might want to check out the WikiTree category at Compgen’s Discourse as well as the German Discord server Ahnenforschung.

Of course there’s still the official WikiTree Discord server, where we usually talk English. Feel free to learn more about Discord and the server at Help:Discord.

Kind regards from Black Forest

Hi,

It’s Germany Project check-in time again! Please respond within the next 2 weeks and let me know if you’re still interested in participating with the Project. Remember, the only requirements for membership in the Germany Project are (1) that you work on at least one German profile every 6 months and (2) that you respond to this check-in.

Since you’re not working with one of our Sub-projects or Teams yet, please look at our main Project page for a full list and let me know which team you’d like to join.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. In your response, we welcome any feedback you may want to give on the project (what you like about it, what you’d like to see us do, what we could change, etc.)

If you ever have any questions, please ask. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Hi Traci, thanks for the check in. I didn't know what I could do with the Germany Project as many sources are in German and it looked overwhelming. However, I just took an unsourced profile and found birth/christening and marriage details on Family Search so I can contribute to adding sources. Therefore I would like to continue with the team please. Probably best to join the Germany Profile Improvement Team - Subgroup Sourcerers.

Hi Rich,

It’s time for our annual Ireland Project check-in! Please respond within the next two weeks to let me know:

  • If you are happy with the team you’re on or if you’d like to make a change. It is now required that all members with an Ireland project badge work on at least one of the project’s team(s), so if you’ve not yet signed up please do so in your reply to this check-in.
  • What you think the project is doing well, and what (if any) changes you would like to see us make? Are there any teams you would like to become more active in?
  • Would you be interested in helping to work on an Ireland Project newsletter?
  • Please give us some feedback on the use of google group and discord. Do you use one or both of these? If you don’t use either of them, what is the best way for us to ensure you receive project communications? If you would like to join us on either one, just let us know in your response and we will get you signed up.

Please respond to this message by posting a reply below or sending me a private message on WikiTree. If we don’t hear from you within two weeks, we will assume you are no longer interested in participating in the Ireland Project, and your badge will be removed. If you wish to reapply for membership later, we will be happy to have you back. Many thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Jen Hutton, on behalf of the Ireland Project

Hi Jen, I joined the Diaspora group and also Google groups. I have yet to dive into the group too much as I have been busy updating and re-formatting my own tree and many other non-family profiles I have created, including Ireland. However, I will be looking at the list of maintenance needs some time soon and contributing further to those that need corrections or sources added.

Hello Rich,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

I see that you have already joined the Germany Project - thanks! The England Project may also fit your research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles that you manage or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Hi Rich,

Thanks for joining the Germany Project! I've awarded you a project member badge.

Please read the Germany project page and add GERMANY to your list of followed G2G tags. I've received and approved your request to join our Google Group, where our project communicates.

The Germany Project has several teams that cover regional, functional, historical and migrational interests. Please check them out and let me know if you'd like to join any of our teams.

It's difficult to find German ancestors unless you know which region of the country they are from ... do you have that info on your Schaare and Heitefusz ancestors?

We look forward to working with you!

Thanks Traci. Jacob (Schaare-12) and Sophie (1845-1905) both died in New Zealand. Jacob arrived in NZ on the Friedeburg which sailed from Germany on 7 May 1875 and arrived in Napier 24 August 1875. He was born in Hanover about 1845. He was a farmer. He married Charlotte Frederike Peters (Peters-11924) after Sophie's death. My page for Jacob has further detailed information. Have given information to Dieter Lewerenz of the Germany Project too. Much appreciated

Thanks Wendy, have been learning and have a good start to my family tree. Have made mistakes but have sorted them. Still trying to find sources to info. I have added. Difficult when a lot is in pay sites. Anyway, have found out my father's grandfather abused his family and was in jail, another ancestor and his wife were killed by a falling tree and another had an illegitimate son who killed himself and his wife. All are documented in the newspapers. Has taken 2-3 years to track this down, getting better in doing this. Still sorting out how to best layout info. and have adopted another profile. Have been in contact with a woman who shares the same ancestor and she has heaps of info. she can send me.

It is addictive and I love doing the detective work. Thanks for your checking in with me, appreciate it.

Goodness! Such stories! In my research, I found a distant cousin and his family had been murdered and in another branch found a husband who had killed his wife.

Give me a shout if you need help finding sources, or ideas for layout, but not this weekend, as I will be quite busy with the Clean-a-thon.

Take care, keep safe Wendy

Hey Rich,

I see that you mentioned adoption in your tags/bio. By adding your branches to our shared tree, there may be an opportunity for someone to find you! Adoptees: How to Set Up Your Profile is a WikiTree help page specifically designed for new members who indicate they are adoptees. It is also helpful for non-adopted members who have adoptees in their family tree. The page includes links to more resources, like our Adoption Angels Project, basic search techniques, information on DNA, etc.

Good luck!

I hope you enjoy WikiTree as much as I have. You never know when you will find a lost family member or ancestor. Or maybe find a hidden family secret about an ancestor. Genealogy to me is like being a detective looking for clues into the past.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I'm always happy to help!
