He was a social studies teacher at Winona Junior High School, and coached football and swimming. ^[2]

He passed away in 1983, as a result of an accident on the family farm farm. ^{[2] [3]}

Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona, Minnesota. ^[4]
