Biography

Marie Louise Morin was born on 20 Feb 1800 and was baptized on 21 Feb 1800 at Saint-Henri, Lévis, Bas-Canada.[1][2]

  • She went by Marie from most of her later documents, son Joseph Bouffard's and her own marriage record give her name as Marie Geneviève. Her parents were married 28 January 1799, her Sépulture lists her as aged 81 years and 2 months. A Marie Louise is born February 21st 1800 to her parents, no record of this couple having a Marie Geneviève at a later date. Therefore it is reasonable to say that Marie Geneviève and Marie Louise are the same person. Could be an error in the baptismal record.
  • Marie Geneviève Morin was married to Joseph Bouffard January 12th 1819 in St-Henri, Lauzon. Her father Henry (Henri) and her uncle François were present and could not sign. Marriage contract is with François Xavier Lefebvre 2 jan 1819.
  • Her son Simon died March 29th 1839 and her husband died 3 days later on April 1st. Her son may have died in a fire per his Sépulture margin note, possibly Joseph died of injuries from the same fire as well?
  • Marie remarried to widower Pierre Gagné dit Belavance on 27th of September 1843 in St-Anselme. There is no evidence of them having children together.
  • Pierre and Marie moved with at least some of both of their children to Winslow, Sherbrooke County, Canada East (Quebec) prior to the 1851 census. The census indicates that Pierre was part owner of a grist mill with two employees in the summer, other details about the mill are included in the census.
  • Pierre and Marie are still living in Winslow North, Compton, Quebec, Canada during the 1871 census. Many of their chidren have settled in the area per the census.
  • Marie now a widow is living with stepson Octave Gagné and his family in Winslow in 1881.
  • She dies May 3rd and is buried May 5th 1881 in the cemetery of St-Romain-de-Winslow Parish.
