Biography

Elizabeth (Morgans) Morgan was born in Mochdre, Montgomeryshire, Wales.

Elizabeth Morgans was born before 1838 ^[1] and was baptised on 25 March 1838 in Mochdre, Montgomery, Wales. ^[2] She is the daughter of Thomas Morgans and Jane (Lloyd) Morgans.

In the 1851 census Elizabeth (age 13) was the daughter of Thomas Morgans in Montgomeryshire, Wales. ^[3]

Ellen Morgan, the Granddaughter of Thomas and Jane Morgans, was born in 1860 in Mochdre, Montgomeryshire, Wales. According to Ellen's marriage certificate on 26 January 1879, her father is Thomas Leach. At the time of Ellen's birth, Thomas Leach was 21 years old living on the same street as the Morgans family. Elizabeth Morgans was 23 years old and she is probably the mother of Ellen. She was living with her parents and baby Ellen at the time of the 1861 Census (see below).

In the 1861 census Elizabeth (age 23) was the daughter of Thomas Morgans in Montgomeryshire, Wales. ^[4]

Ellen's father Thomas Leach married Eliza Griffiths in 1866 in Newton. It is not known why Thomas did not marry the mother of his daughter Ellen.

Elizabeth Morgans passed away aged 29 in 1867 in Newtown, Montgomeryshire, Wales. ^[5]

In the 1871 Census, young Ellen Morgans is described as the daughter of Jane Morgan. It seems more likely that she is the Granddaughter (as stated in the 1861 Census), otherwise Jane would have been 45 at the time of her birth, which seems unlikely. With the death of Ellen's mother in 1867, Jane would have taken on the role of mother to the child.
