Biography

Died on the search for the lost Franklin expedition in 1854 while serving on the H..M.S North Star. He had started on the expedition in 1850 on the HMS Investigator sailing from England around South America to Hawaii then through the Bering Strait. He and others finally met up with the HMS North Star in 1854. The rest of the crew continued back to England becoming the first to complete the Northwest Passage. More details are online.[1]

I have the rare opportunity of visiting these graves in April 2012 as part of a military exercise. We flew out of Resolute Bay by Twin Otter aircraft landing on the ice.
