George,was the son of Julia E. Morgan and Zack Morgan who had predeceased his son, of Philadelphia, and he enlisted in the US Marine Corps in Philadelphia on August 30, 1965 in Philadelphia PA. In Vietanam he was serving with Company B, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

A platoon size force was conducting a reconnaissance patrol near the Phu Long village complex, in the Binh Son District, of Quang Ngai Province when a wire on a trail was tripped detonating what was believed to been a 60mm mortar round, wounding two Marines by the exploding shrapnel. Mortally wounded, Cpl Morgan died before he could be evacuated.
