Birth

According to prison records Thomas was born about 1858 in Silchester, Hampshire, England[1]

Baptism

Thomas was baptized on 1 Apr 1860 in Great Haseley, Oxfordshire, England, as the son of William and Peggy Morgan, of Silchester, Hampshire. His father was described as a basket maker. [2]

Residence 1870 in jail in Gloucestershire

In 1870 Thomas was found guilty of stealing clothes and sentenced to five years at industrial school; accomplice sister Sarah was sentenced to 10 months in adult jail.[3]

I meant these words in the profile "According to prison records Thomas was born about 1858 in Silchester, Hampshire, England". So the baptism and "prison records" both seem to imply he was born there. But having looked again, perhaps it's only the baptism that mentions Silchester.

Since the baptism register at Great Haseley gives his parents' "abode" as Silchester, Hampshire, and there is other evidence he was born there, it seems more likely to be his birthplace than Haseley in Oxfordshire.
