Biography

William Morcom migrated from Cornwall in about 1883 to Australia.

William Morcom was born in Cornwall about 1861 (estimated from age given at death in 1930). His obituary suggested he came to NSW about 1883.

William married Matilda Margaret Wellington, daughter of Thomas Miller Wellington and Susan Budds, in 1885, the marriage registered in Bathurst, NSW^[1].

Widely known and highly esteemed throughout the Bathurst district, Mr. William Morcom, of Lambert Street, died in the District Hospital yesterday afternoon after a short illness. A native of Falmouth, England, the late Mr. Morcom, who was 69 years of age, came to Australia 47 years ago, and has resided even since in Bathurst, where he carried on his trade of carpenter and joiner for many years.
For over 40 years he was a member of the Methodist Church Choir and a regular attendant.
Of a sympathetic and kindly disposition, the late Mr. Morcom rarely missed a Sunday during the last 11 years in visiting patients at the District Hospital, where he would pause a short time at each bed to say a few cheerful words to the occupant.
He is survived by a widow and three sons, Messrs. William Morcom (Sydney), Norman and Horace Morcom (Bathurst).
The funeral will leave Mr. Cam Reed's funeral parlour this afternoon at 4.30 for the Methodist portion of the Bathurst cemetery.

His wife Matilda died later the same year^[6].
