Biography

The daughter of Blake Malton Moore Sr and Margaret (Short) Moore, Mary Ann Moore was born in Lawrence County, Tennessee^{[citation needed]} in 1851. Her mother died not long after, probably around 1857, and in 1860, Mary Ann lived in Lawrence County with her father and her siblings.^[1] Her father remarried in 1867, marrying Lydia Blundell.

Mary married John Dixon Hollis, marrying in Wayne County, Tennessee on July 21, 1874,^[2] having four known children together. In 1880, Mary and their children lived in Waynesboro, Tennessee,^[3] while her husband went ahead to Texas, boarding that year in Young County, Texas and working as a day laborer. Mary and the children later joined him in Texas.

Widowed in 1890, Mary lived in Justice Precinct 2 of Tarrant County, Texas in 1900, residing with two of her daughters; that year, no one listed an occupation or income on the federal census.^[4] Mary Hollis is believed to have passed away in Texas,^{[citation needed]} perhaps in Midlothian, at the age of 49. Nothing is known of her death of passing.
