Biography

Sarah was a Friend (Quaker)

Sarah was born on "17th day, 6th month, 1664" (translated to 17 AUG 1664), possibly in Warminghurst, Sussex to William Moore and Margery Selden. ^[1]. She was orphaned when both parents died within a month of her 10th birthday, her father on May 5 and her mother on June 26, 1674. **

Sarah, daughter of William, was born on 17 August 1664 in England.^[2]

Sarah, child of William, was baptised in 1667 in Chipping Norton with Over Norton, Oxfordshire, England.^[3]

By 1676, she had entered into service as a ward/maid/servant in the home of William and Guillielma Penn, who were still grieving the loss of their first three children. The Penn's must have been fond of Sarah as they hosted her wedding to John Michener in their home, the only wedding recorded to have been in the Penn household ^[4].

John Michener married Sarah Moore on 5 August 1686 in Warminghurst, Sussex, England which was the residence of William Penn. ^[5][6]

Shortly after their marriage, Sarah and John took passage to Pennsylvania with a letter of introduction (dated 12 SEP 1685 [item in letter collection by Albert Cook Myers]) from Penn to his manager, one James Harrison, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

There were seven Michener children born to John and Sarah Michener: Sarah Michener, then the twins of Hannah Michener and Rebecca Michener, then Mary MIchener (documentation shows that Mary passed away before William was born - so she passed pre-DEC 1696)**, then William Moore Michener Sr and then another set of twins, Elizabeth (Michener) Pennington and John MIchener Jr.**

Sarah was buried in Kennett Square, Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States.^[7]

Research Notes

Note: Sarah was a ward in the home of William Penn. Her wedding certificate with John Michener reports that their marriage occurred in the home of William Penn in Warminghurst, Sussex and bears the signatures of William Penn's wife, Guilielma Maria (Springett), their daughter, Laetitia, and their son, Will Penn Jr, who were among the witnesses to the wedding. This was the only wedding known to have occurred at Warminghurst Manor. William Penn was not present.

Sarah is listed as being William Penn's ward prior to the marriage to John MIchener.
