William was born 24 January 1810 and baptized 4 March 1810 in St George The Martyr, Southwark, Surrey, England, United Kingdom. His parents are Charles Montgomery (comedian) and Maria.[1][2]
He married Maria Izard on 10 May 1843 in St George The Martyr Southwark, Surrey, England, United Kingdom.[3]
their daughter, Maria Malibran. was born in 1848 in Middlesex, Islington.[4][5]
William became a member of the The Royal Society of Musicians of Great Britain on the 2 February 1845 as confirmed in the Society's book, “Members of The Royal Society of Musicians 1738-1984” on Page 101

In 1851 he lived with his wife and daughter in Islington, Middlesex. His niece, Harriat A Foard, lived with them. He was a professor of music.[8]
In 1861 he lived with his wife, Maria, and their daughter, Maria M., in Islington, Middlesex. He was a professor of music.[9]
In 1881 he lived in St Marylebone, London, Middlesex. He was a professor of music. He was listed as a lodger and married although his wife was not listed on the census with him.[10]
He passed away 13 September 1886 and was buried 16 September 1886 in the South Metropolitan Cemetery in Lambeth, Surrey, England.[11][12] In his obituary William was recognized for his popular compositions including "Oh, had I but Aladdin's lamp", "The Silver Lake Varsoviana" and "The Haymakers". He studied music under Brooks and Shield. He was one of the oldest members of the Royal Society of Musicians. He was musical director at Sadler's Wells, at the Covent-garden in 1864, at the Strand with Mrs. Swanborough, at the Lyceum with Mr. Fechter, as well as, other theaters.
He also wrote the music for around 50 pantomimes.[13]
