Biography

Vito was born about 1821 ^[1] to Antonino Montelione and Maria Caldarone ^[2]. He married Pasquala Marino in 1853 when he was 32 and she 24. They had at least 6 children, 3 of whom died young. Vito was widowed between 1898 and July 1908; his own date of death is not yet known.

Vito's marriage record refers to him as a 'villico', a man of modest status who did not own land or have a skilled trade. This is somewhat at odds with his father, who is referred to as 'Don' Antonino. The title 'Don' may be just a mistake.
