Sanders, in his work, “English Baronies”, published 1960, recorded the successor of “Ansfrid Cormeilles” who held the barony of Tarrington, co. Hereford in 1086, “may have been Walter Cormeilles who is mentioned in association with the bishop of Lisieux in 1095”. In other words, he was not sure. However found an entry in the "Book of Fees", page 100, that records a Ricardus de Cormailles tenuit de dono Willelmi Regis primi feudum j. militis apud Eston’. Then checked "CSP France", [1] but found no reference to Ansfrid, Walter or Richard living in the reigns of William I – Henry I, but did find reference to Richard Cormeilles, the grandfather of Sibyl Cormeilles who married Hugh Giffard of Boyton in three charters, nos. 1139, 1142 and 1148 , dated c1140, c1144 and undated. These charters, as well as other charters, confirm that Richard Cormeilles, died 1174, and his brother, Robert, donated the church of Tarrington, co. Hereford, to the priory of Monmouth. They were the nephews of Baderon II fitzWilliam, lord of Monmouth, living 1142, grandsons of William fitzBaderon, living 1102, and Hawise his wife, and great grandsons of Baderon died <1087, brother of Wihenoc, first lord of Monmouth.
