Biography

Leoluca Mondello is born and baptized 17 July 1803, the son of Amodeo Mondello and Giuseppa Mannina. Leoluca is named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Maestro Pasquale and Biagia Badulato, a married couple.

Leoluca's father, Amodeo, dies at age 50 (b. 1777) on 8 November 1827.

Leoluca is a member of a small, predatory band of criminals, most of them corleonesi. Although two of Leoluca's associates, brothers, were either guillotined or escaped to Tunis in 1833 or 1834, most of the bandits escaped justice and reconstituted their group in December 1835. On 17 March 1836, Leoluca is named a killer and listed among other members of Rapanzino's band as a wanted man with a bounty on his head.

Leoluca, reportedly age 28 (he is almost 33), is clearly killed, the body identified and buried on 8 July 1836. On the same date, the body of Giuseppe Castro Rapanzino is also found, killed. According to this record, Leoluca is the son of the late Amodeo Mondello and his wife. His mother, Giuseppa, who is living according to this record, is not named in Leoluca's death record.
