Otis Odelle Mixson was born on 15 December 1899 in Coffee County, Alabama, United States.[1][2][3] He was the son of David Marion Mixson (1867-1955) and Ada Lillian (Hildreth) Mixson (1876-1946). (Note: In some records his middle name is spelled with an E on the end and in other records it is not.)

When he completed his World War I Draft Registration Card on 09 September 1918, Otis Odelle Mixson stated his occupation as student at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He named his father, David M. Mixson, as his nearest relative. His physical description was:[1]
He was a veteran of World War I. He served in the United States Navy, enlisting on 12 October 1918. He served as an Apprentice Seaman at the Naval Unit University of Alabama Birmingham until 11 November 1918.[6] He was also stationed at Chattanooga, Tennessee as part of the United States Navy Reserve Force until 18 Dec 1918.[7]

He was married to Bessie Elizabeth Davis, daughter of Henry A. "Gus" Davis and Carrie C. Cotter, about 1921 when both of them were nineteen years old. (Estimate of marriage year based on the 1930 United States Census.) They were the parents of at least two children.

His mother, Ada Lillian Hildreth Mixson, passed away in 1946. Otis O. Mixson of Chattanooga, Tennessee was mentioned in her obituary which was published in The Dothan Eagle.[10]

His father, David Marion Mixson, died in 1955. Otis Mixson of Chattanooga, Tennessee was mentioned as one of the survivors in the obituary published in The Dothan Eagle.[12]
Otis Odelle Mixson passed away on 13 October 1970, possibly in Tennessee. According to the Social Security Death Index, his last place of residence was Chattanooga, Hamilton County, Tennessee. He was 70 years old at the time of his death.[3] He was buried in Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Hixson, Hamilton County, Tennessee.[13]
