Biography

Vincenza Milone is born and baptized on 29 March 1875 in Corleone. She is the daughter of Giuseppe Milone and Gaetana Serra. Her godparents are Bernardo Cardella and Rosa Jovino, a married couple.[1]

On the Birmania, sailing from Naples, arriving 16 August 1892 in New York:

204. Ignazio Milone, 30 (b. 1862), going to New York

205. sister Vincenza, 17 (b. 1875)[2]

Four days after their arrival, Vincenza's godfather, Bernardo Cardella, a borgese and the son of a farm manager, is murdered in Corleone. Vincenza's godmother, Rosalia's sister, Biagia, is married to Michaelangelo Gennaro, the Mafia boss in Corleone from 1920-24. Rosalia later emigrates, living in Los Angeles in the 1930 census. Her death is recorded the same year in Dallas, TX.

A note on her baptismal record tells us that Vincenza marries in New York at the Chiesa di Carmine, to Giuseppe Vasi, son of Francesco Paolo Vasi and Salvatrice Berlingeri, on 31 January 1897.[1] This is confirmed in the civil record.[3]

Giuseppe and Vincenza have at least one child, Francesco (1898), named after his paternal grandfather.

Francesco is born 15 February 1898 in Manhattan.[4]

Giuseppe's brother, Leoluca, immigrates in 1905 with his wife's family. He is arrested in connection with Giuseppe Morello's counterfeiting operation in 1910.
