Giacinta Milone, daughter of Maestro Pasquale Milone, a blacksmith, and Giuseppa Stilla, is born on 8 February 1862 in her parents' home on via Santo Nicolo' in Corleone.[1]
She marries Calogero Liggio, a miller, son of Domenico Leggio and Margherita Moscato, on 25 February 1878.[2]
Calogero and Giacinta have at least four children: Domenico (c. 1875), Margherita (c. 1879), Pasquale (1882), and Francesco Paolo (c. 1899).
Domenico's age, year of marriage, and date of immigration are not yet known.
Margherita is born around 1879-80 in Corleone, based on her reported ages at immigration and in a US census.
Pasquale is born 23 December 1882 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Federico Paparcuri and Maria Grazia, his sister, both unmarried.[3]
Francesco Paolo is born around 1899, based on his reported age at immigration.
Margherita marries Leoluca Vasi on 8 June 1903.[4]
Calogero Liggio, 54 (b. 1851), a miller, his wife Giacinta, 45 (b. 1862), and their son Francesco Paolo, 6 (b. 1899), immigrate to New York, arriving 23 June 1905 on the Konigen Luise. Traveling with them are Margherita, 25 (b. 1880), her husband Leoluca Vasi, age 33 (b. 1872), and their daughter Vincenza, 6 (b. 1899---note this age puts her birth before her parents' marriage). They are all going to meet Calogero's son Domenico, and his wife, Salvatrice, at 1654 Madison Ave (or at 1645 Madison Ave: note the transposed digits.)[5]
Leoluca is active in Giuseppe Morello's gang in New York, along with his uncle, Domenico Milone. Both are arrested in connection with a counterfeiting operation and are indicted in late 1909/early 1910.[6] The police retrieve $50,000 in counterfeit currency, mostly $2 and $5 bills, from his home on 3rd Avenue in New York.[7] Leoluca is imprisoned in 1910 and released by 1919.
