Biography

Alexander Milne was born in Hertfordshire, England.

His birth record appears to be Oct quarter, 1850 at the Hitchin, Hertfordshire registration office.^[1]

The earliest record which shows Alexander, an infant, within his parental household is the 1851 census.^[2]

Thirty years later, Alexander Milne is found in the Hampstead, London, Middlesex household of his brother, John V Milne, in 1881, where Alexander's occupation is shown as Schoolmaster. This and all other census records but one record his birthplace as Baldock, Hertfordshire.^[3]

We find in the 1891 census for Hastings Holy Trinity, Sussex Alexr (sic) Alexander Milne (40), single, reported as having been born in Jamaica, a teacher and at this time, servant to an unspecified head of household.^[4]

2 Sep 1892, in Sulham, Berkshire, Alexander married Georgiana Mary Middleditch.^[5]

In the 1901 census at Hastings Holy Trinity Sussex we find Alexander Milne listed as Principal of a private boy's school, his wife Georgiana, four daughters, and a visiting nephew:^[6]
