Biography

I was born at the Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital, delivered by Dr Robert Christman MD. Attended Penbrook Elementary School K-12, then Central Dauphin East Junior High School 7-9, then elected to major in Graphic Arts at the Dauphin County Technical School graduating in 1975. We were the first class to graduate with three years at the "new" school.

In 1977 I served on the first Commonwealth Court jury trial that lasted nearly 4 months. I learned to play pinochle while the jury was sent to the jury room during lengthy attorney sidebars with the judge. It was complicated.

In 1978 I moved out on my own to a small apartment at 2513-A Green Street in Harrisburg PA. About 1982 I moved to a larger apartment at 2340 N 3rd Street in Harrisburg. By 1983 I bought my 1st house at 4715 Hillside Rd, Lower Paxton Township PA. On May 10, 1991 we moved to 6478 Heatherfield Way, Paxtonia PA.

At an early age, I found an interest in genealogy which developed into an obsession. I spent many years speaking with near & distant relatives, spending lunch hours at the PA State Library & PA State Archives. Visited Historical Societies, cemeteries, funeral homes, anywhere I could expand my knowledge of even my most distant relatives.

At age 13, I began working at Harrisburg Awards in Penbrook PA, then continued to Giant Foods through High School. In my senior year I was given a co-op printing job with Bernardi Brothers in Swatara Township PA. After graduation I began work at ITT Terryphone on East Park Drive as a pressman.

In 1980 I began my career with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the Labor & Industry Printing Department. After 7 years I was at the top of my pay scale and personal computers were becoming vogue, so I took some courses at the Harrisburg Area Community College and landed a job as a COBOL programmer at Labor & Industry. After several years programming, I converted to a more specialized Database Administrator capacity.

About the year 2000, I took a promotion to a higher level Database Administrator position with the Pennsylvania State Police where I worked for about 2 years. Then finished out my Commonwealth career as a Database Administrator for the PA Department of State, from which I retired in 2014.

I'm an avid contributor to FindaGrave, for both relatives and non-relatives. I'm struggling to keep up with changes in technology and organizing the information I've collected over many years of research.

In the interim, I've been able to raise two successful contributors to society, and now two promising grandchildren to carry the torch.

Hi Michael. I just added Frank Utterback's profile (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Utterback-720), son of Earl Thomas Utterback and Hazel Crayne, because I found his obituary that gave his vital info. (I couldn't find a Find A Grave memorial for him.) I was going to just transfer his profile to you, but I needed your email address. So you can just request to be on his trusted list, if you want.

Thanks Bob, Ownership is not an issue for me so no need to transfer. I'm just glad you found him and added him with his family. Best wishes and keep up the great work!

Hi Michael I just added you to the profile you asked to be on the trusted list. Sorry it has taken so long, but my computer died and I had to buy a new one. Guess that makes us cousins! Taylor

Hi Michael

Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To find other potential relatives, continue adding sourced profiles for other lines until you can connect on all branches. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

Have fun!

Hi Michael,

This may also be of some assistance to you it explains more about the process of how a GEDCOM will be uploaded to WikiTree.

One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that I found very helpful. I hope that you will too.
