Biography

Spice/Spicer/Espicer was born in Rehoboth, Massachusetts on October 21, 1757 [1]. He was the son of Nathaniel Millerd and Elizabeth Kingsley, the third of six children born to his parents.

He was a highly skilled carver, and is noted to be one of the greatest carvers of his time. Several of his powder horn carvings have been located and are on display in various places in the US. He is noted by several organizations including the American Society of Arms Collectors. [2]

He married Elizabeth Fairbanks, daughter of Jonathan Fairbanks, in Warwick, Rhode Island on January 30, 1783. [3]

He and his wife had at least two children, however, as he was listed in the 1800 census as having 7 residents in the home, he may have had other children.

He died in 1806 in SWANSEA, Massachusetts, and was buried in Thomas Cemetery there. [4], [5]

Probate records indicate that at the time of his death, he resided in Rehoboth, and he occupied 25 acres on "Aaron Millerd" land, including a blacksmith shop. [citation needed]
