Biography

Richard was born in 1946, first of three sons (Siblings Michael and David) for Geoff and Merle Miller.

Married to Elizabeth (Libby) Miller (nee Pigott) for 30 years from 1984, they had two wonderful children, Sarah (b1988) and James (b1993), Both Sarah and James have both chartered their own future in quite different directions following studies at University.

Richard Matriculated from High School in 1963. Following about 5 years working, he commenced his Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) degree in 1969 at University of New South Wales. Graduated in 1972. He was the first in his family line to graduate from university.

Over the next 40+ years he worked across a number of commerce sectors from junior management through to senior management roles. Highlights being Australian Head of Communication Services for National Australia Bank in late 1980's to early 1990's, followed by Marketing Director of the Royal Blind Society, Executive Director of the Sydney University Medical Foundation and finally almost 14 years as the National Chief Executive of The Scout Association of Australia until his retirement in September 2013.

Richard also served as a volunteer on several Asia Pacific Region Scout Sub-Committees over 15 years, including the ICT Sub-Committee, the Management Sub-Committee and culminating in Chairmanship of the Scouting Profile Sub-Committee, his term finishing in November 2015.

Professionally, Richard was a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management (FAIM), Fellow of the Australian Marketing Institute (FAMI), Certified Practicing Marketer (CPM). He served as President of New South Wales Branch of the Australian Marketing Institute and as a Board Member of the Australian Marketing Institute.
