Paul Methuen was born on 16 May 1723. He was the son of Thomas Methuen and Anne Selfe.
He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England.
He married Catharine Cobb, daughter of Sir George Cobb, 3rd Bt., on 25 June 1749. Children of Paul Methuen and Catharine Cobb:[1]
Paul held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Warwick in 1762 and 1768; and for Great Bedwyn in 1774 and 1780. He lived at Corsham House (now Corsham Court), Wiltshire, England.

He is named as a legatee, residuary beneficiary and executor in the will dated 4 July 1749 of his first cousin once removed, Paul Methuen KB, who died on 7 April 1757 where he is described as: "my cousin and godson Paul Methuen jnr Esq of Corsham Co. Wilts grandson to my uncle Anthony Methuen Esq of Bradford Co. Wilts and son of my late cousin Thomas Methuen Esq of Bradford Co. Wilts" [2]
He died on 22 January 1795 at age 71.[3]
