Biography

Mary Ellen Metcalf was born on 10 March 1914 in Alabama, United States. She was the daughter of Amos Harvey Metcalf (1879–1962) and Carl Muncy Chancey (1888–1983).^[1]

When the 1920 United States Census was taken, Mary E. Metcalf was 5 years old. She was living in the household of her father, Amos H. Metcalf, in Clintonville, Coffee County, Alabama, along with her mother, Carl, and 4 siblings--Frances, Ray, Elmeta, and Mildred J.^[2]

Mary E. was living with her parents, Amos and Carl Metcalf, in Clintonville, Coffee County, Alabama when the 1930 United States Census was taken. Mary E. was 16 years old. Four of her siblings--Elmeda, Mildred, Virginia, and Frances were also members of the household.^[3]

Mary Ellen was married to Jacob Daniel Gunter (1908-1976) on 25 April 1936 at the home of aunt, Mrs. G. B. Huey, in Enterprise, Coffee County, Alabama.^[4][1] They were the parents of at least two children who are potentially still living.

She graduated from Alabama State Teachers College in Troy, Alabama.^[4]

Mary Ellen (Metcalf) Gunter died on 04 June 1965 in Enterprise, Coffee County, Alabama at the age of 51. She was buried in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Enterprise, Coffee County, Alabama.^[5]
