i am wondering why I can't add in a DNA Y-Chromosome test result. My brother took the test for me. I thought that although i cannot pass it down, that I still have the genes ?

I wrote a private message to the profile manager a week ago to see if I could modify the bio and also some birth dates (father and daughter) and am waiting for a reply. Still, I should have added some research notes before anyway. I have done that now for Catherine (Graham-12292) and also her father George . I hope this is fine. I finally did change Catherine birth date anyway. I asked to change George's from 1524 to 1538 ( I included to source to explain why)

You added parents to Graham-12292 without any sources being added. What was the reasoning since the bio has different parents stated? AT least one of the parents added was dead before the child was born.
Newly linked father George died 1570. Catherine, the child, has a birthdate of 1584, totally unsourced. When relationships are being changed, sources / research notes should be added to all affected profiles.
Bonjour Marie,

Hi Marie!

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are usually shared by many descendants, collaborating with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or topic. Review the project pages to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Can't find what you're looking for? Let me know, and I can make some suggestions! :-)

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Hi, Marie,

As you have been a member of WikiTree for a few weeks now, I thought I would check in to see how you are getting on with the site.

Has the New Member How-To been helpful, or left you with any questions?

Did you know that we have a research tool that makes finding reliable sources easier? I use it all the time and it helps me remember different places to check. To give it a try, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research, scroll down near the bottom of that list, and select Research with RootsSearch (use your WikiTree email & password). There are over 20 websites to access from there. You can read more about the tool in the RootSearch FAQ.

I am here to help with any problems or queries you may have. To contact me, log into WikiTree, and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment so that I will be notified. Alternatively, you can click my name to visit my profile, where you can send a private message, or post a comment on my profile page.

Hi Marie,

I noticed your question about adding your brother's YDNA information. DNA tools at WikiTree are set to only allow YDNA test information on profiles of males.

You can help your brother register as a Family Member and his DNA information can be added to his profile. You can read more about how to do that in these FAQs:

How to invite relatives so they can add their DNA test information

What if my relative is not interested in genealogy

I hope this helps,

Hi Marie

I see that you have uploaded a GEDCOM. The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report. The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

If you have questions about how WikiTree works, let me know. To contact me, log into WikiTree, and go to your profile. Use the Reply link below my comment to be sure that I will be notified. Best of luck with your research!

Hi Marie!

We are so happy to have you here in the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration. Don't be afraid to ask questions in our G2G forum and get involved as much or as little as works for you. Be sure to check out the tabs at the very top right hand side of your profile, there is lots to discover!

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do!

I hope this helps! If you have any problems, let me know.

Happy tree climbing

Rhonda ~ WikiTree Greeter
