Biography

Kathy (Melloy) Thomson participated with Legacy Heirs during the 2023 Source-a-Thon, adding sources to 206 previously unsourced profiles.

I am the eldest daughter of Rob Melloy. I am a busy mother of two and I have a wonderfully supportive husband.

My interest in genealogy started when I was at home on maternity leave back in 2012. My father, who is also a keen genealogist, asked me to map my husband's family for my children. I was hooked! I have amassed a large amount of data over the years. Recently, I have decided I would like to do something with the data and turn it into something more accessible. Additionally, I am a proud Australian and I feel very connected to this land. Thus I would like to honour my direct ancestors back to my immigrant ancestors but writing their biographies on WikiTree. It has been a very intimate project that has allowed me to deep dive into a single ancestor's life to understand their life and context. This has turned BDM dates and census data into stories.

I am keen to collaborate.

Registration begins soon for the January thon. I will be reminding you when it is time to register, but I have some news that will be helpful when that time comes. I have been told that we will be trying a new registration system. When you go in to register, it will not be just making a comment as in the past. The new system will have sections for each team. You will just find the Legacy Heirs one and post to that one.

That means the first Thon of the year will be a Connect-a-Thon on the weekend of the 19 - 22 Jan 2024. I would love to have you with your fellow Legacy Heirs at that time, if it works out for you. I will remind you about registration when that time comes.

The 2023 Source-a-Thon is coming up on the weekend commencing 29 September. As usual it’s a 72 hour event. The Southern Cross Stars team will be participating and we’d love to have you on the team again if you’re available. But it's absolutely fine to join the Legacy Heirs instead. You can register at now at register-now-for-the-2023-source-a-thon. We’re not a super-competitive team, so even if you are only free for a couple of hours or you like to work slowly and go down rabbit holes, it will be fun to have you involved.
