Biography

James Mellen was born 20 Jul 1841 in County Longford, Ireland (or Jan 1843 in Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland), the son of John Mellen and Jane unknown. Parents' name from his marriage record in 1864 giving age as 42.

The 1865, 1870 and 1880 Censuses give birthyear as 1841, 1842, and 1841. In 1865 he resides in Boston but in 1870 and 1880 he resides in Somerville, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He was a tinsmith

James immigrated to the U.S. arriving 7 May 1859 in New York.

James married Mary Frances Buchard (1845-1899) on 23 Jan 1864 at Andover, Essex County, Massachusetts.^[1] Their children were:
