Research Notes

Might be duplicate of Angus MacSween (abt.1775-bef.1858). Both profiles need better sources.
Although MacDonald has the paternal grandfather as Archibald, Quattlebaum claims it was William.[2]

Hi Thom

I will go ahead and try to merge the two Henrietta profiles (as there is good evidence they are the same person). I will keep the two Angus profiles as two separate people (as there isn’t any evidence to say they are the same person).

I’ve added the same Comment to Margaret Martin’s Profile Page.

They are the same person only if they had the same parents but you suggest that the parents are not the same. If that is so, it could be both sets of parents had a daughter named Henrietta and instead of merging the two, steps should be taken to ensure that neither is conflated with information from the other.

Hi Thom

I’ve added a comment on the Profile page of Henrietta MacSwane (MacSwane-1) regarding the merging of Henrietta MacSwane (MacSwane-1) and Henrietta MacSween (MacSween-56). I hope you can take a look at it when you have time.

Thank you Carmel

NOTE: I’ve also added this Comment to the Profile page of Henrietta MacSwane (MacSwane-1).

Hi Thom

I’m going ahead with the merge of the two Henriettas. I contacted the US Presidents Project and I have their permission. Also, the Project Improvements Program (PIP) has accepted me on their Voyage. They will assist me in the merge and in making a good job of Henrietta’s Profile.

At the end of the merge, Henrietta MacSween (MacSween-56) will be the remaining Profile and Angus McQueen (McQueen-2469) won’t be connected as her father.

I’ll continue with the research and hope you can also when you have the time. Please let me know about your findings.

Thanks Carmel

Hi Thom

I already put the following information under Research Notes on the profile of Angus MacSween, MacSween-60 (the one I’m Profile Manager for). I’m putting it on your page because of the yellow box above referring to speculative parents. I hope it’s the right place for this:

“I don’t think there is any available evidence that I can see showing that the profile of Angus MacSween, MacSween-60 is a duplicate for Angus McQueen, McQueen-2469. I don’t think there’s evidence to prove both the Angus profiles relate to the same man.

Therefore, while there is no such evidence available, I think we should treat them as two different men. (I have to say I don’t know the how the WikiTree rules work for all this.)

PROFILE for ANGUS #1: Henrietta’s father. There is no evidence available that I can see that links this person or his family to Mary Martin, who married a MacQueen. We know of ANGUS #1 mainly through the records of other members of his family. Also, I don’t think ANGUS #1 should be known solely as “MacQueen” because on Henrietta’s records and her siblings records, Angus’ name and the family name are spelt mostly MacSween/Macsween/MacSwane/Mcsween with the usual variations, mistranscriptions and misspellings. There is only one record that I’ve found so far that spells the name “MacQueen”. That is on Henrietta’s son’s Marriage Record where Henrietta’s maiden name has the spelling “MacQueen”.

In the end, the references/sources I can find for Angus #1 are:

(1) through the records of his children and

(2) in the biographies and reports of Hebridean Connections and Hebrides People Websites. They gather their information from a lot of different original sources, from the Isle of Lewis and Harris, that they cite on their websites and in their many publications. They, of course, are also limited by the minimal resources from that period of time. [See MacSween-60 for sources.]

PROFILE for ANGUS #2: Angus MacQueen: who is not Henrietta’s father. There is no evidence available that links this person, or his family, to Henrietta, her mother or her siblings or extended family. In this profile, ANGUS #2 is a son of Margaret Martin. Margaret married Alexander MacQueen. (Angus’ brother, Donald, married into, what seems to be, a different MacQueen family). Their family members and extended family members have profiles on FamilySearch and WikiTree. There are a number of sources available referring to members of this large family, settling in North Carolina. (One of the family biographies mentions ANGUS #2 and states he died unmarried and living in his brother’s house in Robeson County, North Carolina.) His part of the family originally came from Skye, Scotland, went to America and died there.”
