James McQueen was born in New York to John and Mary Scott McQueen. His family came to what is now Osage County sometime between 1836 and 1841. His youngest brother, Robert was born in Osage County, about June 1841.
James first married Emeline Keeney, daughter of Michael Keeney, Sr. on 14 July 1842 in Osage County, Missouri. They were the parents of two children: Mary Louisa and John Scott McQueen.
After Emeline's death, James married Eliza Backues Poe the daughter of Sanford Backues and widow of Barnabas Madison Poe. They were married on 19 April 1849 in Osage County, Missouri. They were the parents of at least two children: James Jackson and Thomas L. McQueen.
James McQueen's third wife was Nancy Coppedge Cook, widow of William Cook. They were married on 13 Aug 1882 in Maries County, Missouri. There were no children from this last marriage.
James is buried in Pilot Knob Baptist Church Cemetery in Osage, Missouri.[1]
