Biography

When Daniel Mcpherson was born on December 25, 1801, in Roane, Tennessee, his father, George, was 17 and his mother, Nancy, was 16. He was issued a marriage license to marry Debby Ann Davenport on 1 Dec 1824, and was married on December 5, 1824, in Blount, Alabama[1]. He died on February 25, 1881, in Cullman, Alabama, having lived a long life of nearly 81 years, and was buried in Hanceville, Alabama. His obituary in the Blount County News of 2 March 1881 reads as follows:

"McPherson, Daniel, died 25 Feb 1881; At the residence of his daughter in Cullman County, on Friday the 25th, February, 1881, Mr. Daniel McPherson, in the 81st year of his age. The deceased was a native of East Tennessee, but was one of the first settlers in this county, where he had resided many years and raised a large family. Whatever faults he had, and none are without limits, no man could say but that Daniel McPherson was strictly honest. Peace of his ashes."[2]

There is another burial attributed to Daniel McPherson at the Blountsville Cemetery. Stone is fallen and broken in half, but at one time was best deciphered as "DANIEL R. son of R-E- MCPHERSON" and written all in caps, except for the "son of". It was in very bad shape then (about the 1970s) and is now almost completely unreadable except for the top of the stone. At the time of the Wooten Family Reunion, the descendants of Daniel's daughter Lucy were taken to this gravesite by a local historian. However, this is actually the gravesite of Daniel R. McPherson, b. 1868, son of Richard F. McPherson, who was the son of Daniel McPherson, b. 1801. This is the source of the R. sometimes given as the middle initial of Daniel (b. 1801) which is therefore an error.
