Hi Bev

I see that you have uploaded a GEDCOM. The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report. The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

Hi Bev!

Thanks for joining us! I hope you're enjoying our site and our community. I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Has the New Member How To Pages been helpful or has it left you with questions?

It's great to have you on board. Enjoy your time here, and good luck growing your branches. If you need help just click on my name and you will be transferred to my profile where you can post a message or send me a private message.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Hi Bev

May I suggest that you amend your tags, so they are not all combined under one heading? Tags are useful as they become clickable links to others researching those names or places you are interested in. That won't work if they are all combined under maternal and paternal headings. For further information on tags, see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Tags

Hi wendy...

I'm quite new to this. Would you mind helping me. Or direct me in a direction on doing so. Many thanks Bev

Hi Bev, on your profile page, just under your Tags on the right side, you will see ‘Edit Tags and Tag Comments’. If you click it, it will take you to the page with your Tags. Next to each Tag is ‘Delete Tags’ and ‘Edit Tags’. For your Tag, ‘Maternial’, click ‘’Delete Tag’. Now scroll down to the bottom of the list and you will see ‘Add New Tag’. In the box, type Lindee and in the Comment box type My mother’s maiden name. She was from Canada. Click ‘Enter new Tag’. You can add all the names like that, or you can come back and do more later, as you identify which names you are trying to connect with. Repeat the process, deleting the Tag Paternial and add a new Tag for McLaughlin.

NB I assumed Canada, as I am Canadian, though I live in England. Change Canada to whatever it should be.

Re your GEDMATCH id, you should add that to your DNA section. See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:How_to_Get_Started_with_DNA#Consider_using_a_third-party_comparison_and_matching_website

Once you have added it to your DNA section, you can delete the GEDMATCH Tag.

Let me know if I can help further. If you click the Help button in the top right corner and then click Help Index, you will find most Help pages are organised alphabetically. If you can’t find something, let me know.

Wendy
