Biography

Alexander was born on July 15, 1851 to Alexander McKinley and Nancy McKinley in Washington Township, Allen County, Indiana.^{[1][2] [3] [4]}

Alexander lived with his parents and siblings in Washington Township, Allen County, Indiana in 1860 ^[5] and in the same place with only his mother in 1870. When he was 12, the census noted his occupation as a farmer and the fact he had not attended school within the year.^[6] He was able to read and write. ^[7][8]

Alexander married Clara Jane Coleman on October 12, 1873 in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.^{[9] [10]} They had at least one child, including:

• Autice Levi - born August 5, 1875 ^[11]

In 1900, Alexander was a horse collar maker. He was also a widower and lived in Fort Wayne Ward 9, Allen County, Indiana with his sister Emily Edmonds nee McKinley along with her husband William Edmonds and their daughter Getrude Brosius. ^[12] In 1910, his living situation was similar with the only changes being the addition of the Emunds’ son in law William Brosius, and their granddaughter Virginia C Brosius. Alexander was no longer working in 1910.^[13]

Alexander died November 21, 1911 aged 61. He is buried in Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne Indiana.^[14]

Research Notes

The 1850 census spelled McKinley as McKinly while the 1860 census spelled McKinley as Mc Kinley - in both cases the first names of the parents and children align with other records.
