Biography

Margaret (McKillop) McKim migrated from Scotland to United States.

Margaret McKillop was born on June 22nd, 1868 in Dalserf, Scotland to parents Reverend Alexander McKillop and Helen Nish Neilson.^[1] She came to America in September of 1869 on the [S/S Europa] with her mother and two older siblings. She was about fifteen months old. The family lived in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and Illinois before settling in Cherokee County, Kansas, where her father was a miner and a Methodist Episcopal preacher. On September 22, 1884, Margaret married James McKim in Cherokee County, Kansas. They had seven children together in Weir, Kansas (Willie (died as an infant), James, Harry (died as an infant), Nellie, Madge, Harry and Jessie), then two more after moving to DeRidder, Louisiana (Fannie Lou and John). Margaret was also known as "Maggie." Margaret passed away on February 6, 1921 in Fort Worth, Texas.

I think the 22 Jun 1868 birth date is the correct one because it matches later ages that she gives AND the birthday on her death certificate. It could also be that the 1865 birth record references an earlier child who died in infancy.
