Biography

Joseph Winifred McKague was born on 20 Jun 1874 in Racine, Mower, Minnesota.^[1]

In 1910, J. Winfred [Joseph Winifred], age 35, lived with his parents, Joseph H., age 63, and Mary V., age 72, in Gales, Redwood, Minnesota. Joseph and Mary had been married for 39 years. Mary had 10 children with 5 still living. Also living in the household was their adopted son, Leroy Canoff, age 10, and a grandson, Floyd Avon McKague, age 2. Floyd was born in Washington, and his father was born in Nebraska. ^[2]

Joseph married Effie May Steadman (formerly Jones) on 11 Mar 1914 in Glendive, Dawson, Montana.^[3]

J. Win [Joseph Winifred] McKague registered for the World War I Draft on 12 Sep 1918. His nearest relative listed was his wife, Effie McKague. Their residence was in Redwood, Minnesota.^[4]

In 1920, J. Winn [Joseph Winifred], age 45, lived in Castle Rock, Dakota, Minnesota, with his wife, Effie, age 49, and two step-children from Effie's previous marriage: Winifred Steadman, age 19, and Arthur Steadman, age 16.^[5]

In 1930, Joseph W. McKague, age 55, and his wife, Effie, age 59, lived in Empire, Dakota, Minnesota. Joseph was listed as first married at age 39, while Effie was first married at age 19. Joseph's occupation was a Farmer. The census also indicated he was not a military veteran.^[6]

Joseph passed away on 13 Apr 1956 in Greenvale Township, Dakota, Minnesota. He was interred at Greenville Cemetery in Dakota, Minnesota.^[1]
