MCGuirt-34 Vickie (MCGuirt) Carris
Calvin W. McGuirt fought in the Civil War in North Carolina and was later held as a prisoner of War at Point Look Out.


It’s a wonder that our family history didn’t stop here and it’s amazing that Calvin McGuirt survived the Civil War. He was released from prison on June 29, 1865. The water was contaminated, overcrowding, no shelter and the men were forced to hunt rats and eat raw fish. When the water was high it would flood the area and men would be in water and mud. Many had diseases and many died.

Mr. Calvin McGuirt of the north eastern portion of the county died Saturday night of heart disease. He was about 68 years of age. His remains were buried at Tabernacle Church Sunday afternoon.
