Biography

Glen was born the third of six children to Ora Howard and Jenny Mary (Douthett) McGrew in Jewell County, Kansas on Sept. 27, 1892. Together with his family they later moved to Superior, Nebraska before eventually settling in Fort Morgan, Colorado.

Glen graduated from Monmouth College where he met his wife, Emily Jameson and subsequently earned a law degree in Chicago. Glen and Emily began their life together in Chicago Illinois where they had their first child, Jean Elizabeth, in October, 1919. A major influence and mentor in their lives during the early years of their marriage was Emily's uncle, David Matchett, a prominent Chicago judge. They subsequently moved to Elmhurst in DuPage County Illinois and then to Rensselaer, Indiana before eventually purchasing a land abstracting company and settling in New Castle Indiana. Glen became a successful land developer and prominent member of the New Castle community in the years following World War II. Glen purchased land on the west side of State Highway 3 in New Castle that he subsequently developed; it is now commonly referred to as "the McGrew addition."

After moving to New Castle, he and Emily converted from Presbyterianism to Quakerism and were active members of New Castle Friends Meeting until his passing at age 83 in on May 3, 1976. [1]
